Megan Washington announces national symphonic tour
Much-loved songwriter Washington will join forces with Australia’s premiere Orchestras for a unique collaboration this September through November. Kicking off in Sydney with three back-to-back dates at the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, Washington will perform her anticipated forthcoming fourth studio album in full, accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
An exclusive show at the QPAC Concert Hall with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra as part of Brisbane Festival will follow, along with shows in Hobart and Perth with The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and The West Australian Symphony Orchestra respectively. Washington will grace the stage of the Melbourne Recital Hall to conclude the tour, joined by Victoria’s Impossible Orchestra.
“It's an absolute life highlight to be able to work with orchestras of this calibre”, says Washington. "When considering repertoire for these shows, it was very important to me that I focus on the future and present new work. I want to look musically forward, not back. Essentially these shows are decadent, extravagant album previews for my new record, which will be out next year. It's going to be a sumptuous, romantic art party.”
Washington is a two-time ARIA Award winner, APRA Award winner and multi-platinum selling artist. In 2009, she won the inaugural APRA|AMCOS Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition with the title track from her debut EP How to Tame Lions.
Washington’s acclaimed, anthem-filled debut record I Believe You Liar (2010) achieved platinum status, peaking at #3 on the ARIA Album Chart, and was quickly followed up by the majestic mini-album Insomnia (2011). Co-written with global superstar Sia and Adele collaborator, Sam Dixon, Washington delivered her second full-length album, There There, in 2014. The album was recorded in the UK with Washington on keys, Sam on bass, Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) on drums and Leo Abraham (Roxy Music) on guitars.
Recently, Washington inspired the world with her honest and personal story via a captivating TEDx Talk in Sydney, Australia, which was also broadcast on the ABC’s Australian Story program and has chalked up over two million views online.
Washington’s late-2016 single Saint Lo, recently became her first song to reach a million plays on Spotify and is the first single from her highly anticipated forthcoming album.
