Fans of Australian heavy-duty rock would be no strangers to Byron Bay’s Fort and Sydney bands Tax and King Clam, who have slayed audiences around the country over the past 20 years. Valhalla Lights formed late in 2013 in Byron with singer Phoebe Black from Tax and King Clam, and guitarist George Christie, bass player Brent Crysell and drummer Deon Driver of Fort. However, disaster struck when Phoebe tragically passed away just days after recording the vocals for the band’s debut album.
Phoebe had put down nine solid tracks that were so raw and so good, they left the remaining band members in awe and knowing that even though she was gone they should record the music and finish what they all had set out to do.
The documentary sees the band members discussing the tragedy of losing their singer and the difficulties involved process of recording Krypton, as well as interviews with several musicians who worked with Phoebe over the years including Luke Gower (Cog), Krishna Jones (Juice, Midnight Juggernauts) and producer Ben Rosen.
During the process of reverse-engineering the songs for Krypton, the remaining members of Valhalla Lights crossed paths with another kindred spirit in vocalist Ange Saul (The Black Lullaby) and the band has been able to continue on their creative journey with renewed passion and a new singer.
Ange has quickly become an integral part of Valhalla Lights sound and the band has another album-load of tracks ready to record and live shows to celebrate the release of the album.
