TOY announce debut Australian tour
Psychedelic indie rockers TOY have announced their debut Australian tour.
London based five piece TOY formed in 2010 from the ashes of Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong, who found success in 2007 with their single Lucio Starts Fires. When the band disbanded in 2009, Dominic O’Dair, Maxim ‘Panda’ Barron and Tom Dougall went on to form TOY, picking up additional members Charlie Salvidge and Alekandra Diez along the way.
Their rock’n’roll songs distort and contort themselves to make a gloriously kaleidoscopic sound. With a sustained attack and release of ever-evolving psychedelia, the group effortlessly meld NYC ’77 to Neu! 75 via Warp Records and Detroit scuzzball rock. While myriad influences may have gone into the group, it is a single-minded, propulsive whole that emerges from the speakers.
TOY’s self titled debut album was released late 2012 through Heavenly Recordings / Cooperative Music, with the first single Left Myself Behind selling out of the initial pressing upon the first day of its release. The Guardian described it as"excellent...recalls some kind of late-80s/early-90s jam session between Stereolab, Felt and Pulp" and NME included them in their "New Bands You Have to Hear" class of 2012. They’ve found fans in The Horrors, who invited TOY to join them on their last UK tour and called the five piece "the most exciting band to come out last year". Other performance highlights include supporting Primal Scream throughout Scotland, and several festival appearances including a blistering set at Field Day Festival.
Don’t miss the chance to witness one of Britain’s most exciting bands when TOY tour Australia this June.
