This Time Next Year
Words: Rob Lyon
Pop punk band This Time Next Year make their first tour to Australia to support New Found Glory, Taking Back Sunday and The Maine, making for a rock solid line up. Taking in most capitals cities, punters should get their early so as to not miss some of the up and comers in the pop punk caper.
It all started back in 2006 with the self release of a five song demo, which sparked some attention and led to the recording of their debut A Place For You earning themselves the tag 100 Bands You Need To Know in 2009 by Alternative Press. Signing with Equal Vision Records was a big tick for the bands releasing their debut Road Maps and Heart Attacks then the 2011 follow up Drop Out of Life. Brad Wiseman made time for quick-fire Q&A with Caught In The Mosh ahead of the upcoming tour.
What is the latest for This Time Next Year?
I’m in Boston recording an album with another band.
How is that going?
It’s going great, just finishing up tracking drums right now.
Are you excited about your first visit to Australia?
It is our first time down in Australia, so it’s going to be awesome and huge. It’ll be exciting watching New Found Glory and Taking Back Sunday every night. There are a lot of things we want to do but I’m hoping whoever we are with knows what’s going on and can show us some cool spots.
How would you describe the music of This Time Next Year – do you see yourselves as pop-punk?
That’s how I see it and that’s what we are. I think we bring a real energetic vibe to the table, especially when we play live. Hopefully that will go over well when we get to Australia.

What’s the history behind the band forming?
Pete our singer, guitar player Dennis and myself used to be in a hardcore band playing together for a while. Then one day when we were jamming we decided to try turning this into something new and over saturate that whilst keeping our other thing.
Do you think the band’s sound has evolved much between the release of Road Maps and Heart Attacks and Drop Out Of Life?
I think it’s more simplified and straightforward but it’s still us. We write and play the music we want to play, which is all we have set in our minds when we’re writing.
Are there plans for another album this year?
We really haven’t thought about it too much.
Are there any Australia bands you want to check out while you’re here?
Tonight Alive have been here in the States a lot doing cool things, I Am Villain and my buddy Lewis is in that band (after meeting on the Warped Tour). I’m hoping he gets in touch and hangs out with us on this tour.
