Steve Smyth announces 45+ date Exits album tour
Steve Smyth will be heading out on a mammoth 45+ date national Exits Tour this August -December in support of his stunning forthcoming Ivy League Records debut album, Exits.
After Steve’s first two Exits singles Shake It and Written Or Spoken being well received at community radio and Double J, and his recent performance at Pigsty Festival where The Maitland Mercury declared he “stole the show with a mesmerising performance”, Steve returns from a month long tour in Spain in time to release Exits and get back on the Aussie road. Steve and band will be covering major cities and regional towns across this fine land starting late August in Queensland, dropping by New South Wales after playing Bigsound in September, Victoria and South Australia in October and finishing up amongst the majesty of Western Australia before hitting Sydney in November/December.
Over the past few weeks, Steve played 12 shows in Spain, selling out those in Barcelona, Igualada, Zamora, Gijon, Zaragoza, El Bruc and finished the stint playing with the likes of Massive Attack, The Hives, and Kaiser Chiefs at Low Festival in Benidorm. Before heading back to home soil, he also played a secret show at London’s super underground Manero Private Members Club.
From the streets of Barcelona to touring alongside the likes of The Killers, Angus and Julia Stone, Lanie Lane and Kim Churchill, Smyth has proven time and time again to be devastating in the live setting. A voice churned up in Bourbon soaked Louisiana gravel that soars to the heavens at times with its sweetness... after experiencing Steve Smyth, it’s tempting to compare him with some of the great vocalists of the past few decades.
Exits was recorded in Echo Park, in the shadow of the Hollywood Hills drawing upon the services of Joey Waronker on drums (Atoms For Peace, Thom Yorke, Beck) and Gus Seyffert on Bass (The Black Keys, Norah Jones). Timelessness is a difficult quality to pin down, but singer-songwriter Steve Smyth has it in spades. Hailing from the New South Wales south coast, Smyth’s hazy, itinerant life continuingly sees him travel across North America, Europe and through Asia. Never pausing long enough to take root, all the time registering experiences in his songs.
Australian fans are able to pre-order their copy of Exits today to receive an advanced download of album track South Land and a signed copy of the record. Pre-order Exits from iTunes, JB HiFi or Sanity.
Don’t miss your chance to see Steve Smyth when he hits your town this August through December.
