Steel Panther - Lexxi Foxx
Questions: Adam Parry
To say Steel Panther are a “parody” band is an understatement. They take the piss, and in a big way. Taking the piss, partying, girls and... hairspray! That’s what the band are all about. Oh, and metal! They released their latest album All You Can Eat early last year and have spent most of the time since touring the world, including some memorable shows with Judas Priest and a celebration of the Viper Room’s 21st anniversary.
The band are returning to Australia for Soundwave next week and bassist Lexxi Foxx phoned in to tell Caught in the Mosh about what they’ve been up to since their last album, his new look and how Australian women compare to others around the world.
You were last in Australian in 2013 and since then you released your latest album All You Can Eat. How have things been for the band since it’s release?
Fantastic! It’s such a trip! Since it dropped, so much has happened. As far as the shows we have been doing and the opportunities we’ve had. Playing with bands like Judas Priest was a huge deal for us. Just doing everything we hoped we could do and that’s party and bring heavy metal back to so many people. Again, that Judas Priest tour was amazing and humbling for us. To tour with rock gods like that was a really big deal for us. Just playing the new songs and touring again, the opportunity to play Soundwave again, is like a huge deal for us and we’re really excited to be back in Australia.
Steel Panther has released some incredible music videos from All You Can Eat as well. Are they as much fun to film as they are to watch?
That’s exactly what they are! When we have the chance to make a video, it is a blast. You can’t fake that. I mean, heavy metal is just a fun thing to do. There’s no other genre or no other band I would want to be in apart from the one I am fortunate enough to be in because of the fun times we have on stage and off stage. The dudes in my band are bitchin’. We all like to party and dig chicks and play heavy metal! I mean there’s nothing better than that! When you have a band of that style of music and the songs that we do, everything is a good time. Playing on stage and especially making videos is a blast. You can tell we’re having a good time. I can’t wait to make another one.
In the video for Party Like Tomorrow is the End of the World you pretty much just got to party with a bunch of the Burning Angel actresses.
It’s really cool, because with that video, nobody apart from the director got payed. We just told everybody, all our friends, like Chuck Liddell, Steve-O, Wes from Limp Bizkit, Ron Jeremy, all these names... And these friends, and the girls in this video, everybody just did it to have a good time. That’s what the whole thing was about; everyone there to have a god time. There was tonnes of alcohol and other “things” that were there was there to have a good time. All that video was set out to be was everyone having a good time.

On the All You Can Eat album you also approach some very serious topics, that I think needed to be addressed, such as B.V.S. (Big Vagina Syndrome) and of course Pussywhipped, a condition that strikes many men all around the world.
It does, it does, that’s right... That’s one thing everyone can relate to. You know one time Satchel (guitars) was in a relationship for a long time, it was going on two and a half weeks. It happens to everybody, they just get caught up in their chick and she’s hot and they just do whatever it takes to keep that relationship going. They don’t see that, dude, you’re missing out coz there’s so much fun to have and there’s way more chicks than just one chick! What are you thinking? So that’s what Pussywhipped is about. BVS is serious. That is something that is happening more and more. The older I get the more I see it happening right in front of me. So you’re right, there are serious topics and that’s what we write about, our own personal experiences.
Steel Panther will be in Australia playing the Soundwave festival very soon. You have been here in Australia a number of times now. What is your fondest memory of your time down under?
I’ll tell ya, it was the first time we were there, the first time we played Soundwave. We hit the stage and we could not believe how many people actually appreciated what we did! We have no idea how many people knew or actually cared about what we do. So probably the very first Soundwave we did was an experience I’ll never forget, because that’s when we found out, like “oh my god, Australia is gonna be something good for us” and just couldn’t believe how many people dug what we do. So now going back there every time it’s a very humbling and very awesome experience. So we’re excited to go back there next week.
Many of us Australians would like to know, how do the Australian women compare to the women all around the world that Steel Panther sees?
That’s a great question and I’ve said it before. I cannot believe how many beautiful women are in Australia! From Sydney all the way to Perth and everything inbetween, we can’t believe how many beautiful women there are. I love their accents, they’re just fuckin sexy as shit! I mean, I’m not just saying this. We all have great experiences with girls of Australia and I just couldn’t believe it when I went over, that women were as beautiful as they are. Again, being able to travel all over the world is such a cool experience for me. And us guys of course, being from America, we love to go down under and some of those girls already know that. I’m really looking forward to meeting more when we get out there.
In you previous visits to Australia, you guys like to party. Have you found yourself a favourite Aussie beer?
Y’know, I haven’t. I mean there are so many different flavours of Australian beers. I can’t remember all of the names, but there are a lot of different things we have tried down there. I mean some of the drugs that we’ve done have been insane. There’s a lot of things I do and don’t remember. I can’t remember a specific beer, but there have been many times I have gone out and there were a variety of Australian beers you had that were just delicious. So good that I couldn’t taste it anymore. It was just one after another and then somebody told me I had a really good time.

Now apart from the soundwave shows themselves, what are you looking forward to doing here in your time off the stage?
I love all different parts of Australia. In Sydney I can’t wait to go to the zoo again - I love the zoo. Last time I was there I got to hold a koala bear, I got to hold a crocodile and got to hang out with some of the animals you have there that we don’t have in America. You were saying about the women in Australia too, that’s something else I have in mind. You also talked about the beer - I’m looking forward to all those things everywhere we go. I just wish we were going to be there longer. I think we’re there for 10 days with the shows we are doing with Slash and Soundwave. We are all looking forward to heading down there for this. And I’m not just saying this, we all love it there and especially this time of year, it’s just great. It’s amazing!
2015 is still fairly new, what are your plans for the rest of this year?
Well, I’d like to get a little bit taller because, ya’know, the taller I get, the thinner I look. I want my hair to grow a little bit longer and I don’t wanna get hair extensions, but I’m thinking maybe I will. The older we get the more we all have to do things to maintain the way we look. I’m gonna get Botox before we head out there next week, that’s something I’m gonna do. I also thinking of not dying my hair but when we get out there I’m gonna put a product in my hair called “sun in”, so I won’t have to go to a salon and make it blonder. Just put some “sun in” in when I get to Australia. And I’m also getting some new spandex made as we speak. I’m gonna have that on this tour as well. So I‘m going to change my look up a little bit - I got a new vest that’s being made, so I just wanna continue to look as bitchin and as young as I possibly can. That’s my new years resolution.
Well you often have a mirror side of stage to check your appearance whilst playing so it’s obviously important to look good as well as sound good.
It’s the MOST important thing Adam!
Finally is there anything you’d like to say to the Steel Panther fans of Australia?
Yes there is! And I appreciate your time to promote our band. I just wanna say it’s been a really tough time for Steel Panther to get into other countries with some of the quote/unquote “fun” we like to take with us. So Steel Panther fans out there that want to party with the band and have any party favours, lets just say we have had some trouble with boarder security before. Dogs aren’t man’s best friend as far as we’re concerned. So if there are any party favours you wanna share with Steel Panther, just find a way to meet us and get back stage. We are happy to give out backstage passes and just share some of your fun with Steel Panther and it’ll be a better experience for everyone. Because the more high you are and the more drunk you are the better everything is, the better life is!
