sleepmakeswaves announce Great Northern tour
Sydney ambient/melodic post-rockers sleepmakeswaves have announced their biggest headline tour to date, in support of their latest album Love of Cartography.
The Great Northern tour celebrates the release of the band’s latest single and will see them play 55 shows in 22 countries from March until June. They will wrap up their epic run across the globe with 10 dates in Australia, including headline shows at The Hi Fi in Melbourne and the Metro Theatre in their hometown of Sydney.
sleepmakeswaves had a massive 2014, with Love of Cartography charting at number 31 on the ARIA Chart (#2 on the 100% Independent Charts behind Sia) and nominated for an ARIA Award, J Award, AIR Award and three AU Review awards.
The band’s singles Something Like Avalanches and Great Northern have aired on triple j and community radio nationally, as well as hitting the Top 200 on CMJ college radio charts in the US.
2014 included touring with Karnivool & Dead Letter Circus, as well as their own shows around Australia, the UK & Europe, including Belgium’s Dunk Festival and London’s Beyond The Redshift Festival.
With a series of unforgettable and thundering sequences Love of Cartography presents the band’s continued desire to map new creative directions. Recorded in Byron Bay at Studio 301 with producer Nick DiDia (Karnivool, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Powderfinger, Rage Against The Machine), the album’s 10 tracks range from the epic bombast of Perfect Detonator to the delicate and subtle electronic flourishes of A Little Spark. The album was supported by a Pozible pre-order campaign, through which the band raised over $30,000 from fans to put towards the album.
sleepmakeswaves recently released a new video for their single Great Northern. The driving melodic epic is a dramatic and rhythmic take on the band’s energetic instrumentals, featuring memorable hooks and a balance of electronic ambience and rock drive.
sleepmakeswaves have had an amazing run since the release of their debut album “…and so we destroyed everything.” Over the past three years, their busy schedule has included eight Australian tours, three European tours, touring the USA and playing SXSW, supports for 65daysofstatic and Karnivool – and an unprecedented nomination for an ARIA Award in 2012.
