Splendour Arts & Splendour In The Craft
Splendour Arts 2015
Come July the fields of North Byron Parklands will become a canvas bursting with so much more than astonishing live musical performances.
Each year the Splendour Arts program provides some of the most unexpected, unforgettable and Instagram-breaking festival moments from some of the world’s most innovative and boundary-pushing contemporary artists.
From performance installations, handcrafted micro-universes, epic inflatable sculptures and of course Splendour’s much-loved Tent of Miracles - one of Splendour Arts’ magical moments is never far away, you just have to keep your eyes peeled and Snapchat open.
Splendour In The Grass is proud to unveil Splendour Arts 2015...
Anabaptister
Bennett Miller
Live art installation
The 3rd iteration of an ongoing collaboration between Bennett Miller and Splendour in the Grass, Anabaptister follows on from Barnraiser (2013) and Rumspringer (2014).
Expect once again to encounter a mysterious community of people living and working within the festival grounds, joined this year by a series of special guests giving one off performances in the barn. On the final day of the festival, members of this unique community will be asked to decide between reaffirming their commitments in a special ceremony, or leaving their community behind for good.
Nicolas Cage In A Cage
Hungry Castle
Inflatable Sculpture
Last year the Barcelona-based art collective Hungry Castle brought us the internet-breaking Lionel Richie’s Head and this year they present a giant inflatable sculpture of Nicolas Cage in a cage. You can face off with Nicolas Cage in a cage. Yes. You can. The meme-inspired cage was built to bounce. This is an artwork that reflects the internet and the internet’s effect on culture. Love him or hate him, you won’t break Nicolas Cage.
Based in Barcelona, Hungry Castle is an art group featuring Dave Glass and Kill Cooper.
You C*Nt Stop The Music
Andy Forbes & James Dabrowski
Tent of Miracles, Performance
Splendour’s Tent of Miracles is back with a mash-up of teenage 50s, flower power 60s, 70s rock n disco, hideous 80s hits, and the best hangover relief 45s played on 33 with shock jock DJs, classic retro movie cut-ups and sociopathic media streaming your selfies on the big screen! Just don’t forget to use the hashtag #splendourmiracles
Music in our walk, music when we talk.
It's really something magic, to lose it would be tragic.
Can't you feel the sound movin' through the ground.
Music makes the world go around.
You c*n't stop the music.

Tom Borgas
Outdoor installation/performance
In a world saturated with digital information, it seems obvious to consider that the limits of the virtual world might one-day rupture the excess data bursting out of the non-physical back into reality. The problem is, no one really gave thought to where and how this might happen. But it has happened. A team of experts from across the globe has been assembled to document, study and record the details of this curiously fluorescent, low-res tessellation. Samples need to be extracted and categorised. Data needs to be gathered and analysed, analogue material measured and processed.
Treasure Mountain
Pip & Pop
Sculptural landscapes
Landscapes meticulously constructed from sugar, glitter, sweets and assorted crafty materials draw on ideas of paradise and imagined worlds described in folklore, mythology and mappae-mundi.
Weaving together multiple cultural and local references, Treasure Mountain draws the viewer into a tiny but optimistic world of blissful abundance and utopian dreams.
Tanya Schultz works as Pip & Pop to create immersive and hyper-coloured artworks from an eclectic range of materials including sugar, glitter, sweets, plastic flowers, crystals and every day craft materials. Tanya has exhibited her work throughout Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Germany and the UK and collaborated with many renowned companies including Romance Was Born, Hermes, and MT tape.

2015
For the third year a new work by a different artist will take over the iconic entrance tunnel to North Byron Parklands as its canvas. Each artist has responded to the previous artist’s work and remnants remain of all three commissions. The 2015 commission will consist of large-scale flash symbols along the entire tunnel with a mixture of colours and backgrounds. The work will integrate with the previous works to create pattern effects distinctive to the artist Reko Rennie - an interdisciplinary artist who explores his Aboriginal identity through contemporary mediums.
