Real Estate announce Australian headline tour February 2015
Brooklyn-via-New Jersey’s indie titans Real Estate will close the summer in Australia, today announcing east coast headline dates for February. Performing from their critically acclaimed new album Atlas locally for the first time, the recently expanded five-piece will play Melbourne’s Corner Hotel, Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory and The Zoo in Brisbane.
From the warm escapism of their eponymous 2009 debut and its cherished follow-up, Days, to Atlas’ bittersweet melodic jangle, Real Estate have become modern day guitar heroes across five years of collaboration - world renowned for their shimmering, unhurried pop.
Recorded at Wilco's Chicago studios and lead by the pristine single Talking Backwards, Atlas would earn the band their third consecutive Pitchfork Best New Music, an invitation to perform on the Late Show With David Letterman and lead four star reviews from MOJO, Uncut and the Sydney Morning Herald.
Named ‘the first important record of 2014’ by the New York Times Magazine, notes frontman Martin Courtney of Atlas: ‘We wanted to make a cleaner, more well-rehearsed record that reflected the way we've come together as a live band over the last few years’. See Had To Hear performed live at Pitchfork Music Festival below.
Announcing just one show in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne - with no festival appearances to follow - Real Estate’s February 2015 tour marks the band’s first Australian headline run since their sold-out, fondly remembered debut visit in 2012, and the stand-out performances on Laneway Festival’s 2013 circuit which would follow.
Joining Real Estate in Melbourne only will be locally-based, deep pop thinkers, Dick Diver. Special guests in Sydney and Brisbane will be announced shortly.
Conjuring the timeless American atmosphere of quiet, late-night drives and the sunniest afternoons of the year, the full band line-up of Martin Courtney, Matt Mondanile, Alex Bleeker and their new bandmates Jackson Pollis and Matt Kallman will deliver Real Estate’s blissful suburban pop to Australia this February. Special guests to all shows will be announced shortly.
