Injury forces Pennywise to postpone Australian tour
In news surely to disappoint fans across the country, it has been announced that the upcoming Pennywise Australian tour, due to kick off on the Gold Coast this Thursday, has been cancelled.
Soundwave Touring head honcho AJ Maddah tweeted “Oh Feck! Pennywise tour dates postponed. Dude's done his back. Can't get on plane. New date tba”.
The band were performing at Germany's With Full Force festival at the end of June when singer Zoli Teglas collapsed on stage in severe pain due to a back injury.
A statement form the band on the 3rd of July said: “We would like to thank everyone who has expressed care and concern for Zoli after he collapsed on stage at the Full Force Festival due to lower back complications from a herniated disk. He had an emergency procedure done on his back on Saturday as a result of the severe back pain he had been experiencing throughout the tour. The surgery went as perfect as could be. He’s recovering very well and is already up and slowly moving around. Zoli is in good spirits and is recovering nicely. Unfortunately due to his recovery time, the last leg of the tour will be canceled. The band will however be back out to finish the last scheduled tour date in Spain at the Aupa Lumbreiras Festival on July 13th.”
Obviously, the injury was worse than first thought. Pennywise were also expected to play at Japan's Summersonic festival over the weekend of the 18th-19th August but had to cancel those shows too.
Soundwave Touring has stated that "Dates will be rescheduled shortly and we urge all ticket holders to hang on to their tickets as they will remain valid for the new shows."
**UPDATE**
Pennywise have release a statement regarding their recent tour cancellations:
Due to a setback in what appeared to be the road to recovery for Zoli Teglas, Pennywise will have to postpone their upcoming appearances in Japan and Australia. After being examined by multiple specialists Zoli has been advised to commence further treatments immediately.
“We love playing in front of our fans all over the world,” says guitarist Fletcher Dragge. “The doctor’s news was a hard blow for everyone but Zoli’s health is our number one priority. We are working with the best doctors around to make sure Zoli gets back on his feet as soon as possible…our apologies go out to all our dedicated fans…we will be making up these shows as soon as possible…keep the beers cold!”
We apologize to our fans and look forward to making it up the shows at a later date.
