Melvins and Helmet announce Australian tour
Lovers of hard rock and sludge rejoice! Two of America’s finest are hitting our shores this Dec. Celebrating their 30 year anniversary, experimental sludge godfathers Melvins will be joined by alt metal virtuosi Helmet in a run of shows around the country.
Melvins have released a veritable ‘shitload’ (their words) of albums over the past 30 years, the most recent being a covers collection called Everybody Loves Sausages.
“Has it really only been 30 years?” asked singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne. “Dang! Thanks to everyone who’s been there for us! It’s been an exciting trip and I probably should have listened and learned more. I apologize for anything I’ve ever done wrong and for anything I’m going to do wrong… Ha!”
Meanwhile, Helmet, fronted by Page Hamilton, have been playing their own brand of heavy music around since 1989, putting their offbeat time signatures and dense chords to tape and releasing seven studio albums and touring the world constantly. It’s this intelligent musicality that also led Page to work on scores for numerous Hollywood films (including S.W.A.T, Titus, and Saw) as well as providing guest guitar for artists such as David Bowie, Joe Henry and Therapy?.
“The first Melvins/Helmet tour was in 1991 or '92; the 4 Helmet guys and 3 Melvins guys piled in one van with 2 bands worth of gear and braved massive snowstorms and overnight drives. Needless to say we are looking forward to our Australian tour with our long-time friends minus the overnight drives, blizzards and floor surfing.” – Page Hamilton
