Lepers & Crooks The Heathen Circus EP Tour
It’s been a meteoric couple of years since Lepers & Crooks first came together. The Sydney based five piece rockers have been hailed as one of the country's hardest working bands - tallying up an impressive 200 shows across 2014/15 and garnering a reputation as one of Australia's must-see live acts.
Armed with their charismatic stage presence, easy-going nature and killer tunes, Lepers & Crooks have earned industry attention both in Australia and overseas. Signings to date include Ian Huffam from X-Ray Touring (UK/Europe), Scott McKenzie from Premier Artists (AUS) and Chris Murphy’s Murphy Music Publishing (AUS).
Taking a break from touring towards the end of last year, the five-some relocated to The River House, a secluded musical retreat set on 100 acres just outside of Byron Bay to focus on writing and recording.
The result, their most intoxicating EP to date, The Heathen Circus features six tracks produced by none other than The Tea Party front man Jeff Martin. The EP is out now and is available from Lepers and Crooks, iTunes and Spotify.
"These five gifted young musicians have sincerely restored my faith in rock n roll. They live it, they breathe it, and they own it."
Jeff Martin - The Tea Party
A recent review of the EP says:
"The two leading singles Reflections and Let You Go open up the EP by defining the no bullshit Rock and Roll attitude of Lepers & Crooks with the added swagger of a young band hitting its stride. The rock assault continues through the tribal drum intro of I Can Call but it’s the verses' jazzy guitars and crooning vocals that first show off the bands genre bending abilities. In the Night proves the 5 pieces cohesiveness as a band, highlighting the group’s faultless harmonies and intelligent interplay between the two vocalists. The most profound track of the EP is the epic journey of Ten Year Ramble which puts the eclectic styling’s of the band and lead vocalist Sam Baker in the spotlight, revealing a deeper more emotive side to the band’s story - after spending the past few years playing an unprecedented 250 shows the 5 piece are no strangers to a life on the road ‘I've been breathing heavy, but if I need to bleed to succeed well I won't retreat’. The title track Heathen Circus busts out in a funky frenzy, dripping down to a psychedelic soundscape before building up into an anthemic chorus to close the EP."
