Jesus Jones announce 2015 Australian tour
Leading purveyors of the early 1990’s Indie/Alternative Dance scene, Jesus Jones return to Australia - with the original lineup - playing their influential Doubt album in full! Part of the now legendary Grebo and Alt/Dance movement of the ‘90’s alongside Pop Will Eat Itself, EMF, The Shamen, Carter USM and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin - Jesus Jones have long been considered one of the breakout alternative bands of that time thanks to massive hits Right Here, Right Now, Real Real Real and International Bright Young Thing.
Formed in Wilshire in 1988, Jesus Jones pioneered a hybrid of styles including house, techno and indie rock - indicative of what was going on in the UK music and skate scenes at the time. Their second album Doubt (1991) embraced these latest sounds and along with frontman Mike Edwards’ lyrics of hope and optimism, the album shot to the top of the UK charts.
When second single Right Here, Right Now was released - things exploded massively on the world scene for Jesus Jones. Inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall, the song’s positive overtones struck a chord with the United States and the song peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard Charts in July 1991.
Right Here, Right Now then took up a life of its own in the US where it became a motivational anthem for corporate companies, even being used for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign. They were awarded MTV Best New Artist (1991) and nominated for a Grammy.
Jesus Jones have since become in-demand on the corporate gig circuit in the US and six albums in, are still enjoying the same line-up some 20 years later. This is the first time they have played Doubt in its entirety on this current tour.
“We really love playing in Oz, but more than that, we just actually love being Down Under. The crowds are amazing, the venues are wonderful, it's a fantastic place!" - Iain Baker, Jesus Jones
Frontman Mike Edwards said: “It makes us somewhat unique, among our contemporaries, to be exactly the same five guys as it was all those years ago. We’ve grown up together, and it’s a privilege to all be on the same stage, playing the songs which kick-started our entire career. I can't believe it's 25 years since we first played in Australia. Some of our best ever shows have been here, from the old Greek Theatre in Melbourne to the Hordern Pavilion and Selina's in Sydney. There's an intensity about playing Australia, and I can't wait to get back there"
