The 7th Annual Fremantle Arts Centre New Years Day Concert
Now in its seventh year the New Year’s Day event at Fremantle Arts Centre is a date never to be missed as either the perfect alternative to a New Year’s Eve frenzy or the perfect antidote for one.
You’ve previously seen Fat Freddys Drop, The Cat Empire, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Xavier Rudd, Melbourne Ska Orchestra and many more fabulous acts make the first day of the new year one of sweet hope and good times. Fremantle Arts Centre also plays a big part in the vibe as it is one of the most perfect venues in WA to relax or dance your boots off to quality music with its great location, lovely lawns, excellent facilities, big trees and generally amazing delivery of music events.
It’s time to love it local at the 7th Annual New Years Day Concert as organisers put together the absolute cream of local WA’s national and global touring reggae, funk, soul, afro, dub & world music bands together for this special night. The sweet times are totally and utterly guaranteed with great music, food stalls, cold booze, soft grass, warm sun turning into a sweet moon and a nicely priced ticket to boot.
The Bands
Sunshine Brothers
WA’s own bit of Sunshine. The perfect New Years Day band are back playing some super fresh new rockers they are about to release and the favourite jams from across their three classic albums. Expect an explosion of soul/reggae/funk/dub party monsters that make you feel good.
Grace Barbe Afro Kreol
Back from an album and extensive touring schedule in 2014 the fresh, funky tropical island /afro rhythm & soul of Grace Barbe is back where the love started - in Fremantle Western Australia. This is world class super funky Afro Kreol.
Weapon Is Sound
Hot on the heels of their single and video release there is a big buzz about this reggae/dub collectives brand of dubbed out, tripped out reggae. It is positive and awesome – a great combination.
Koi Child
This fresh Fremantle 7-piece that plays jazz-inflected hip-hop grooves led by an MC. Tight when it should be and loose everywhere else, it’s a closely interactive live jam - freestyling, grandiose horn harmonies, obnoxious synth leads... the works.
Earthlink Sound System
The Fisherman Style legends fill all the gaps between bands with their prime reggae/dancehall selections. In 2014 they celebrated their 100th Fisherman Style night so a great kick off to 2015! Pay your respect!
Tickets are only $30 (+BF) and are on sale now from the Fremantle Arts Centre
