Michael Franti & Spearhead bring soul to Red Hill Auditorium
Michael Franti & Spearhead will be joined by special guests, Blue King Brown, Donavan Frankenreiter, and Tijuana Cartel for what could possibly be the feel good show of the year, at Red Hill Auditorium on Saturday 18th April 2015.
On the edge of the Darling Scarp in Perth, neighbouring the stunning John Forest National Park, and overlooking the city sky line, it’s as if Red Hill Auditorium was created for this rootsy, reggae, indie rock filled line-up.
Michael Franti & Spearhead are showing no signs of slowing down. Evolving over time from outspoken political hip hop artists to a feel good Marley-esque band with themes of universal love and social justice, although Franti’s music now holds a more mainstream appeal it still fits in with his utopian ideologies.
Byron Bay locals, Blue King Brown, will be bringing their urban roots outfit over the bight, showing off songs from their long awaited brand new album, Born Free, recorded at the iconic Tuff Gong studios, Jamaica, founded by reggae superstar, Bob Marley.
Surfer-singer-songwriter, Donavon Frankenreiter and his trademark moustache and ukulele are hitting the Red Hill stage, with a set sure to ooze good vibes and breezy sounds. This will be the first time Jack Johnson’s protégé has graced our shores since his massive La Casa Residency Tour in early ’13.
Although nearly a decade old, Tijuana Cartel could be mistaken for the youngest band on the line-up, with their break out single, White Dove being picked up by Triple J in 2010 and launching the band into the indie music scene. Once described as Flamenco meets electro meets nu-school breaks, it’s hard to put this Gold Coast outfit in a box, and they want it to stay that way. The band will be promoting their recently released ’24 Bit Guitar Orchestra’ album on the West Coast for the first time in 2014.
Angus Stone once likened looking out at the Perth City Skyline from Red Hill’s stage to looking at the embers of a dying fire. Let Michael Franti and friends set your soul alight with a night at Perth’s biggest and best open air Auditorium.
