A Champion Double Header: Scott Russo & Phil Jamieson
For two nights, spanning two cities, two friends and formidable rock identities will come together and bear all in the most honest and unforgiving form, acoustic. A champion double header, as it’s called, featuring Scott Russo from Unwritten Law and Grinspoon front man Phil Jamieson. In an evening stripped of the electric guitars, the amp stacks, the thumping drums and bearing only their souls and smiles for small audiences in Sydney and Melbourne.
Scott Russo, as the front for Unwritten Law, wears his heart on his sleeve and creates an art of connecting with audiences through the feelings that we all share. Love, hate, loss and discovery are all themes you only need to be human to connect with. His own personal story is as genuine as the man himself, constantly pushing his creative ability and own physical boundaries while doing so. As a front man for one of the most identifiable pop-punk bands of the 90’s his energy on stage while playing with Unwritten Law is mesmerising, while acoustically this energy remains, only channelled differently. Delivered with a searing honesty, Scott’s songs stand as tall and proud when delivered behind an acoustic guitar as they do an electric.
You only have to live in Australia to know the name Grinspoon; their songs are as much household names as the band themselves as is the man at the front, Phil Jamieson. Rising from humble beginnings, Phil’s natural charisma is so powerful it pulls people in like the orbital force of the sun with rock star always going to be his natural career path. After Grinspoon called an indefinite hiatus in 2013, Phil went out on his on, forging ahead with his own solo career, a story still unfolding. His unbridled passion for music is only matched by his passion for youth initiatives, being a driving force behind the Rock N Ride campaign aimed at building awareness of the mental health challenges faced by youth.
These two evenings will be an intimate affair of friends, singing songs, with the all the worries in the world left at the door. It’s an evening not to be missed.
