Ben Ottewell (Gomez) Australian tour, new album
British singer/songwriter Ben Ottewell has announced the impending release of his third solo album A Man Apart on May 25. The former Gomez vocalist will tour Australia soon after it’s release, taking in major cities across Australia as well as the Bello Winter Festival in Bellingen.
A new single has also been released in conjunction with this exciting announcement. Watcher is available now to stream and download for airplay.
With an avid following from the days in his former band Gomez, A Man Apart is Ben Ottewell’s third solo offering and follows his albums Shapes and Shadows and Rattlebag. The album is a record that crosses musical genres such as Americana, blues and folk backed by Ben’s unmistakable gutsy and gravelly voice. Co-written with childhood friend and former Tunng member, Sam Genders, the album was recorde in Los Angeles and Sheffield and engineered and produced in the latter by Martin Smith (Richard Hawley).
This will be the third solo tour of Australia from the Bluesfest and Splendour in the Grass alumni and sees Ottewell warm some incredibly intimate rooms throughout the Australian winter. Hitting Darwin, Perth and Adelaide as well as the east coast, it’s a thorough run that ensures his dedicated Australian fanbase is duly satiated with brand new tunes, solo favourites and even some sneaky Gomez gold.
The support on all shows will be US Artist, Buddy. A seasoned L.A. music man and friend of Ben’s, Buddy's lyrical wit, energy and emotion sets up a grand evening of stories and song as these trans Atlantic pals cross the country.
Asked how the Ben Ottewell who collected The Mercury with Gomez in 1998 compares with the 2017 model of himself, meanwhile, Ben says this: “Nowadays, I just feel incredibly lucky to have had some kind of 20-year run at this, and if I can sustain what I do, great. I’m also starting to look a lot more like the way I sound”, adds the singer, laughing. “I’m not this fresh-faced kid freaking people out anymore!”
