headspace Big Day Out 2014 National Band Competition winners announced
Big Day Out are pleased to announce the winners for the 2014 headspace Big Day Out national band competition. 25,000 votes were cast in support of over 460 applicants from all over the country for a place on the headspace stage at their local Big Day Out 2014.
After the public-voted shortlist was created, a panel of music industry experts and Big Day Out 2014 headspace stage supporters Triple M came together to choose the winners in each state. Now, without further ado, we present your 2014 headspace Big Day Out national band competition winners.
On the Gold Coast, The Royals were chosen by Triple M, alongside Industry Expert Panel voted Doubled Lined Minority, The Belligerents and Sneeky Picnic. Rockers Audemia are Triple M’s pick for Melbourne, with Let’s Not Pretend, Altitude and Arcane Saints tipped by Industry Experts. Tiffany Britchford & The Reckless Abandon got Triple M’s vote for Sydney, with Cuervo, Benjalu and The Never Ever winning over the industry panel. In Adelaide, Triple M chose Sweet Anarchy, with Skytheif, Audio Reign and Heston Drop and to round things off in Perth, My Team Dilemma (from the Northern Territory), and local WA bands Brufield and Lunar Inverse are performing with From The Dunes being Triple M’s pick.
Congratulations to all the winners! The 2014 headspace Big Day Out national band competition was designed to give young bands the once in a lifetime opportunity to play at Big Day Out. Attending Big Day Out is a rite of passage for many young Australians, and headspace want to be there, front and center, to help break down the stigma attached to mental health and send a message that it’s okay to talk about your problems. Mental health is the single biggest health issue facing young Australians, and research shows that 75 percent of serious mental health issues emerge before the age of 25.
