Axe Girl announce single launches in Perth, Melbourne & Sydney
Axe Girl is testament to the great things that can grow from a combination of serendipity, dedication and good old-fashioned irresponsible life choices.
A case in point being lead singer Addison Axe’s relocation from bustling, cosmopolitan, ‘gateway-to- Europe’ London to, err... Perth... in early 2012 to pursue what was very much a fledgling musical project. Some may have viewed this gamble as a tad loopy, but it soon became obvious that she just might be crazy like a fox, with the endeavour living up to everybody’s hopes as the group began rehearsing and playing shows around town
in earnest.
Axe Girl had soon released a free-to-download four song EP “Ghost Romance” which received very positive reviews and some airplay on both Triple J and independent stations. Punters were so enthused that the band even managed to pay for a few rehearsals using proceeds from hard copy sales at their live shows.
Anyway by this stage bassist Vanessa Thornton and drummer Brett Mitchell (who have some time on their hands between Jebediah performances these days) were already firmly entrenched in the line-up, and it wasn't too much later that a young, accomplished xbox player by the name of Warren Myers (who luckily is pretty handy with a guitar too) stepped in to permanently complete the family.
They amazed and delighted themselves - and were very humbled and grateful, once they stopped jumping around and had calmed down a bit - by raising over $10,000 via a Pozible campaign in June 2013 to fund completion of their full length debut album with Dave Parkin at Blackbird Studio, which they had begun work on ages ago. This meant Dave could now be paid on time for the remaining sessions, which would make everybody very happy and keep the band’s kneecaps intact (useful in case they are a bit late for a gig and need to briefly break into a jog, or something of that nature).
The single Give Me Your Tee Shirt is to be the first release from the record, accompanied by a video clip shot by production company Via Luna Pictures, who have several recent clips for Abbe May to their credit, and with artwork handled by another Perth local Johnnage The Brave - self-confessed creator of ”punk-ass cartoons, mostly.
Axe Girl have already managed to pop over east a couple of times albeit too briefly for their liking, and are ready to get on a plane again as soon as they are able, planning to back up the release with shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and anywhere else they can score a bed to sleep in, a stage to play on and perhaps a couple of drinks on the rider to smooth the whole thing out. Naturally Perth will get spoiled with a super-special launch show extravaganza, most likely with fairy bread, party poppers, funny hats and everything.
So... there you have it; the story, in brief, so far. We invite you to jump aboard and play whatever part you'd like in the next chapter of Axe Girl as it evolves, because the one thing we know for certain is - this tale is far from over...
